Penhein is a self-catering holiday like no other, with a wood-burning stove in every tent and a fire pit on your doorstep. Not only does the stove keep your tent toasty, you can also use it to make breakfast – from boiling the kettle for your morning cuppa to frying up a full English. Heat soup in a pan, cook pasta or rice, steam greens, or slow-cook a stew. Outside, the fire pit is excellent for barbecuing meat, baking potatoes, and of course toasting marshmallows (a rite of passage for any happy camper).
If the fire pit doesn’t behave and all else fails, there’s a communal cooking area known as the ‘cheat’s kitchen’ equipped with familiar mod-cons like a toaster, hob, electric kettle and microwave. We also offer professional catering options from superb local suppliers. Fantastic for groups and special events, there’s everything from a cocktail bar on wheels to hog roasts and pizzas served hot from a wood-fired oven.
In your tent you’ll find all the kitchen essentials (salt, pepper, olive oil, etc.), plus a few special ingredients to set your barbecue off with a bang (see What’s Included). Our on-site Pantry stocks a range of locally-sourced food and drink, including pre-prepared meals for a quick and easy supper, as well as homemade cakes and free range eggs from our very own chickens.
You can also order your own supermarket shop to arrive at Penhein at the same time you do. Most of the big supermarkets have branches in the area and know us well, so arranging a delivery is easy.
