April 19, 2023
We are open! After a busy winter of planning and preparing, we’ve moved from the early spring set up to the final Ta Da! Our first guests have arrived and we are looking forward to the sights and sounds of the glampsite we love so much – the whoops of excitement, the laughter, the crackle of the firepits, the birdsong and the murmur of relaxation. We love, love, LOVE this time of year.
Here’s what’s coming up…..
1. May Bank Holidays On the Horizon, and have we got news for you!
If you’ll excuse the alliteration, Monmouthshire is magical in May, and we have not one but TWO Bank Holidays on the immediate horizon. Have you made plans yet? No? Well, if you book with us for either of the early long weekends, we are including FREE Junior Bushcraft in the price of your stay. Book to stay at Penhein and you can enrol your children into one of our bushcraft sessions at no extra cost. There will be a course on Saturday 29th April and one on Saturday 6th May, each starting at 9.30am (usual price £35 per head).
2. What is our Bushcraft all about?
Our Junior Bushcraft courses are one of the most popular of our activities and are specially aimed at children between 6 and 15. A fun way to learn survival skills (and give mums and dads a few hours off), they will learn about – and have a go at – building different shelters and lighting fires without matches (multiple different ways) in the woods on our farm. They will even get to do a little bit of outdoor cooking!
Adventures Galore…
Would you like more than just bushcraft? Well, Penhein is about adventure, excitement, experiences. There is so much to do while you are here. We have our own adventure playground or you can try archery or axe throwing (both new for this year), go on a treasure hunt or join one of our fabulous foragers to find some delights for the dinner table. If you would like a trip out we have the stunning Wye Valley and Forest of Dean on our doorstep where more adventures await. Come and join in!
3. ….but holidays should be relaxing too
If you want have some down time, then you are in the perfect place for an off grid, detox dream. If your children are off doing bushcraft, spend your own time in the outdoors, immerse yourself in the nature you will find all around. Walk up Grey Hill for stunning views, take a wonderful wildlife safari with our nature expert Ed Drewitt, or book one of our fabulous relaxation treatments. The list includes massages, facials, Reiki, cupping and more, all in your own tent. Or…. just sit, and dream, and listen and, well, relax…..
4. Off to a winning start
A few days before the season started, we learnt that we had won Luxury Glamping Experience of the Year. Thrilled doesn’t quite cover it. It is always such a boost to know that what we love doing actually works and is enjoyed by other people. So, thank you for such an award. We will always do everything we can to live up to such an accolade.
5. Our Selected Charity for 2023 – The National Autistic Society
Each year we select a charity to support and this year we are delighted to say it will be the National Autistic Society, who so brilliantly raise awareness of the condition and support families around the UK. We have had quite a few families staying with us over the years who have been affected by autism. And many return. We love the fact that Penhein has so much to offer families that sometimes struggle to find suitable holidays they can all enjoy. The peace and quiet, the independence children can find whilst still being in safe surroundings, the proximity to nature and the sensory calm are all things that parents have mentioned to us. We are very proud to be supporting such a great cause, and are looking forward to working with them.
