Here we are on the cusp of a new season of adventures at Penhein! As the daffodils spring up and the trees turn to bud, our thoughts are turning to longer days and all the fun in store at our glorious glampsite. We LOVE the fact that so many of our guests return year-on-year, but it certainly keeps us on our toes and with that in mind we’ve added lots of new experiences for 2020 to make sure that each stay at Penhein is filled with as much excitement as the first. Here are a few of the NEW things we’re most looking forward to this season:
Getting closer to wildlife – by day and night
The countryside around Penhein is teeming with wildlife, from the tiniest butterflies to wise barn owls. As part of our ongoing sustainability drive, we’ve added salt licks to encourage the deer, and we’re diversifying our wild flower meadow to encourage more buzzy insects. New for 2020 groups can sign up for a Wild Walk and explore the surrounding area and our woodlands with an expert guide, or try a Dusk Safari as darkness falls and the hidden world of Penhein at night comes to life with bats, badgers, owls and colourful moths. Older, more independent children aged 9+ might like to try our new Penhein Wildlife Challenge – see how many different creatures you can find as your explore the natural landscape around the glampsite.
Wellness activities amongst nature
Just being at Penhein is enough to do you good – switching off from screens, slowing down, cooking outdoors over the firepit, sleeping as a family beneath canvas. But to enhance the experience we’ve added a few new treats to our wellness offering. Listen to the wind whistling through the leaves, feel the cool breeze on your skin and find a sense of peace with a Forest Bathing course at Penhein. The Japanese practise (also known as Shinrin Yoku) is slow and gentle and is proven to support the immune system. Also new to our wellness offering this year is Outdoor Yoga – we can’t wait to see some yogi’s unrolling their mats in our wild flower meadow and saluting the sun! And we’ve got new Balm Foraging too: explore the woods and meadows with a herbal expert and learn about the healing qualities of so many of the plants we overlook or disregard as weeds. Drink herbal tea with you findings and make your own balm to take away.
Party suppliers and delicious additions to the Penhein Pantry
Continuing our quest to source locally, we’re delighted to introduce new gin tasting and distillery tours for our guests at the nearby Silver Circle artisan gin distillery, deep in the glorious Wye Valley. Find out how the gin is made and of course have a taste too! Groups might like to test the taste buds with our new Fruit Wine Tasting with VQ Country Wines. Having had the arduous task of sampling a few of these delicious wines ourselves, we can promise you you’re in for a treat tasting and identifying the flavours of these fruity wines that range from light whites and pale roses to deeper reds. And if you’re having a party, we’re thrilled to have a pop-up cocktail bar in a shepherd’s hut, as well as a The Crêpe Escape – a genius mobile crepe bar that arrives with all the toppings you could ever wish for.
As well as all these bigger additions, there are some details we hope some of our old timers’ might spot too! Take a look in Petro, our communal tent and you just might spy a new library of children’s books…Venture into the woods and you might stumble on the new Hearn Hideaway. We can’t wait to see what you make of all these exciting new additions at Penhein – we love seeing your pictures so do tag us on Facebook and Instagram and let us know what you think. The new season of glamping starts here!
