Well, what an amazing season of glamping at Penhein! The leaves are falling on the farm, and we’re about to zip up our tents for the winter. But before we do, we’re looking back over the wonderful year we’ve had, making the most of this beautiful, unspoilt place. Sleeping under canvas, amongst nature, is an experience we never tire of sharing with guests. In fact, as a family-run glampsite, it’s the people we work with and the guests we meet that make all our efforts worth while. As we close the year, we’d like to thank everyone who has made 2019 such a fantastic season at Penhein:
The families who came for holiday adventures
We know it’s a big decision where to spend your holiday time as a family. We believe that Penhein offers something special, the chance to switch off from screens and escape the routine of everyday life and return to simple pleasures of long country walks, cooking outdoors and eating as a family and gazing up at the stars. It has been so wonderful to see so many families enjoying quality time together this year and making use of all that we have to offer at Penhein.
The plethora of passionate Penhein Pantry suppliers
This season we launched the Penhein Pantry. Not only was it built by our brilliant team, who carve outdoor furniture from felled trees on the farm, but it’s kept stocked with goodies that we’ve hand picked from our local area. We’re lucky to have so many passionate people on our doorstep, who supply us with everything to keep our glampers happy from The Preservation Society’s blissfully blackcurrant sirop to go with Crémant as a “Sparkle Under the Stars” cocktail, to Cupsmith’s ultimate hot chocolate for drinking around the campfire.
The yogis who came to practice en plein air
What could be more blissful than yoga in the meadow? Surrounded by nature and tranquility, we were delighted to share our rural setting for a handful of yoga retreats this summer. Thank you to all the yogis who came and practiced their flow in our spacious pop up tent, Chehel Sotoun with the sides rolled up, fresh air floating in.
The A Level Biology group who deemed our stream perfectly pH
Hours spent splashing around in Castroggi Brook was just the ticket for an A Level Biology trip who needed a fresh water river for their studies. We were so delighted that they found two catfish, a young eel and some stickleback and deemed our stream exceptionally clean with a pH that allows wildlife to thrive.
The brides and grooms who tied the knot
We held the first weddings at our glorious glampsite this season. Lanterns were strung from the trees, sunshine dappled through the leaves, and our beautiful couples danced under the stars. Wild weddings amongst nature have proved to be something very special indeed. Watch this space, there’s much more in store for next year…
The groups who came for good times and great activities
There’s no doubt about it, Penhein is a great place to party. From clay pigeon shooting to gin foraging, bushcraft to wine tasting, we’ve had an awesome season for groups who brought their friends to celebrate hen do’s, stag do’s, birthday parties and reunions at Penhein. We’ve had pop up pizza trucks and cocktail vans to keep things merry, and it’s been such fun seeing groups taking over the entire glampsite for their celebrations.
The four-legged friends, the singing birds and buzzy bees
Penhein wouldn’t be Penhein without the lambs bleeting in the spring, birds tweeting from the treetops and friendly-faced calves coming to say hello. We added new hens, Milly and Izzy to our brood of brown layers, and we made delicious jars of honey thanks to Penhein’s buzzy bees.
The wonderful, highly committed Penhein team
Penhein is the result of so many dedicated people all pulling together. From the cleaning staff who keep the tents spick and span, to the experts and therapists who come to run our on-site workshops and treatments, to the admin staff behind the scenes. From James personally showing guests how to work the log burners, to Helen’s incredible Halloween party, it’s all a team effort. We are so delighted that this has been recognised not only by your glowing reviews, but by two major awards this year. We kicked off the season as the AA’s Glampsite of the Year for 2019, and ended with winning Rural Escape of the Year at the Staycation Awards in London this November. These awards really do mean the world to us!
And the hundreds of children who brought Penhein to life
Penhein is a bit of a paradise for children, and nothing makes us happier than hearing whoops from the Adventure Playground or to see a gaggle of friends playing Pooh sticks over the Castroggi Brook. We so loved hosting our first Forest Day this season, not to mention our Halloween Party, Easter egg hunt and numerous Campfire Cookery workshops, Bushcraft sessions and Treasure Hunts.
To all of our wonderful guests and suppliers….THANK YOU from all of us at Penhein! We’ve really had a fantastic season and we couldn’t have done it without all of you. Here’s to 2020… but first, a well-earned rest!
