What's New at Penhein

NEW! Foraging Workshops at Penhein

April 10, 2018

Everyone’s thinking about where their food comes from these days, whether that means eating organically, giving up meat or going vegan. But how about learning from the land and discovering edible produce out in the wild?

Our new Foraging Workshops will teach you all about the native species around Penhein, including how to identify precious plants that many would mistakenly consider weeds. The workshops will be led by expert, Adele Nozedar, a passionate forager, author and educator who really knows her stuff having written 3 books on the topic as well as running courses across the UK from Hay Festival to Hampton Court Palace.

Cooking over the fire pit has always been one of the most popular aspects of a glamping holiday at Penhein. Why not take that one step further with one of these fascinating foraging workshops that are ideal for groups or families:

Forage and Feast Day

Set off to explore the wild wonders of Penhein, looking at the woods, meadows, watersides and more. Immerse yourself in nature by making friends with the plants that many of us see on an everyday basis, but don’t really think about. Find out the tales these plants have to tell! Take a break by a babbling brook and enjoy a cup of wild tea and maybe a slice of even wilder cake….

Back at base, your wild harvest will be used in your lunch or supper, cooked over fire using additional ingredients, and washed down with wild cordials pre-prepared by Adele. Children always welcome.

Sessions approx 4.5-5 hours. £300 inclusive for up to 20 people.

Botanical Gin Foraging and Workshop

Adele will take you into the heavenly wilds of Penhein for a short (hour long-ish) forage to find ingredients which might go nicely into a gin. She’ll then take you back to base where you’ll find out a considerable amount of weird and wonderful information about this elegant drink, whilst enjoying a free cocktail (or maybe 2).

Then you get to make your own unique blend of botanicals gin (or vodka) using foliage, petals, berries and bark from Penhein, supplemented by Adele’s considerable collection of herbs and spices from all over the world. Finally, blend all your ingredients into a 300ml jar to take home!

Sessions last around 2.5 hours and can start at any time of day. £30 per head and at least 10 people are needed. www.breconbeaconsforaging.com
