What's New at Penhein

Holidays at Penhein, where nature is all inclusive

June 14, 2024

Family holiday budgets are tight at the moment, there’s no doubt, so finding a holiday that can boast the ‘all inclusive’ tag is definitely the aim. Here at Penhein we think we’ve got that one sorted! Book a stay with us and you will find days of adventure and fun, all without leaving the farm or spending an extra penny.  At Penhein you don’t need to break the bank to create unforgettable experiences. Here, nature becomes your entertainment, bursting with opportunities for exploration, discovery, and connection. It is a place where imagination and the great outdoors reign supreme, so ditch the screens, grab your sense of adventure, and get ready to reconnect with the natural world.

1. Unleash Your Inner Architect

adventure

Let the children gather some fallen branches and unleash their creativity by building the ultimate den! With a variety of natural materials at their disposal, the possibilities are endless and they can let their imagine soar and see what masterpieces they can create. Will it be a log cabin, a fort to keep raiders at bay or a whimsical fairy house nestled amongst the wildflowers? They could even design a hotel for the mini beasts you can find on site (remember to keep an eye on the budding builders). If building a den is a bit beyond them, then send the young down to the Hearn Hideaway, a place to hide, to dream and where stories can be made up and adventures imagined.

2. Starstruck Evenings

As twilight descends, transform Penhein into your own personal observatory. As we are in a registered Dark Sky area you can watch the night sky come alive with a breathtaking display of stars. Spread out a blanket, lie down and look up to identify constellations with a stargazing app, or simply marvel at the Milky Way stretching across the canvas above. Even a pair of ordinary binoculars can bring the night sky into focus. It’s a truly magical experience.

3. Play in Nature

outdoor adventure

Here at Penhein we have our own Adventure Playground, including balance bars, a tunnel, a tyre walk and a bridge. There are separate swings and even a sensory wall to help with touch and feel and a large outdoors set for Noughts and Crosses, made from fallen wood here on the farm.  Nestled in the glampsite itself, this is the perfect way for children to while away some happy hours while parents enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee. If you want a family team game, we have ‘The Big Box of Games’ in Petro, with everything you need for rounds, football, jenga or frisbee throwing!

4. History on the Doorstep

Penhein’s rich history is waiting to be discovered. You can embark on a self-guided tour to find the Lime Kilns, remnants of a bygone era. Imagine the bustling activity that once took place here and ponder the stories these silent structures could tell, or look for the Roman fort we’ve been told by intrepid archiologists is in The Fir Tree field. Many a roman coin has been found there, so who are we to argue?

5. Ready, Set, Explore!

adventure

Lace up your walking boots and explore the nature trails that weave through the heart of Penhein. Keep your eyes peeled as you go for a variety of birdlife flitting through the trees. Feeling adventurous? Why not try geocaching, a high-tech treasure hunt that uses GPS to lead you to hidden caches throughout the property. Don’t forget to stop by the Bird and Deer hide, where budding wildlife enthusiasts can observe the residents of Penhein in their natural habitat and catch their breath in the calm cool of the hide

6. Wild and Free

For the truly adventurous, a dip in the refreshing Castroggi Brook awaits. Nothing beats the thrill of a cool swim on a warm summer’s day, enveloped by the calming notes of nature (remember to be safe and supervise children closely). Once you’ve finished your dip, take the family to play Pooh sticks over Admiral’s bridge, a game played down through the ages that has never lost it’s charm. It’s almost a rite of passage for the young.

7. A Picnic Fit for Royalty

Pack a basket to overflowing with delicious treats and spread a blanket in a shady spot on the farm for a delightful picnic lunch. It’s the perfect way to soak up the sunshine and reconnect with loved ones in a stunning natural setting (all we ask is that if you see a field has been set aside for hay, keep to the edges so the crop is left untouched).

8. Conquer the Peak

Feeling energetic? Set off on a rewarding hike up Grey Hill. As you ascend, the panoramic views unfold before you, revealing the rolling hills and lush greenery that characterise the Welsh countryside. Reach the summit and celebrate your achievement with breathtaking vistas that will leave you speechless.

9. Fireside Stories

Inside or out, a fire is part of any evening adventure. Story telling, mushroom toasting, feet warming, cooking or just relaxing, a fire is the perfect way to end a perfect day.
