Penhein Glamping is all about families and so we would like to introduce you to our Go Wild Family Break, where you could be just six steps away from wildness this summer!
For adults and children wanting to carve out time in nature, to relax, run wild and then fall asleep smelling of woodsmoke in the comfiest of beds in a luxury Persian tent, our Go Wild breaks are the answer.
Step 1 – Digital Detox
There is no wi-fi or TV at Penhein, we are off-grid, so why not opt in to Penhein’s ‘digital detox challenge’. Surrender your screens to Penhein’s Digital Device Lock Box on arrival to ensure your stay is totally disconnected from the outside world. Whilst this is optional, it is becoming increasingly popular with parents and children alike, as families soon realise the joys of screen free time together.
Step 2 – Run Wild
Set the children free to roam the 400 acre farm. There is an adventure playground, rope swings, a crate of outdoor games, a brook for paddling and eight acres of wildflower meadow, perfect for picnics, frolics, kite flying and hiding out. For woodland adventures there is Wentwood Forest (the oldest in Wales!), over 1,000 acres of wonderful wild adjoining the farm, all without having to get into a car.
Step 3 – Go Bush
Getting wise in the wild is easy here with our Young Explorers Activity Pack (up to 8 years) encouraging the younger children to get out and explore the glampsite, collecting and collating all their wild finds. Or they can try the Penhein Wildlife Challenge (age 9+), great fun and developed in conjunction with Gwent Wildlife Trust.
We also offer a Junior Bushcraft course, a fantastic way for the children to learn survival skills and give parents a few hours off, or parents can join in by booking the Family Bushcraft Course. The wildlings will learn about building different shelters in the woods and lighting fires without matches, as well as making campfire bread on a stick. (Please note bushcraft courses are subject to availability).
Step 4 – Eat ‘al fresco’
Delicious food in wild surroundings is a key part of the Penhein experience, with well stocked cupboards full of cooking essentials, spring water, a wood-burning stove for brewing the morning cuppa, a firepit outside and access to the ‘Cheat’s Kitchen’ for those moments when the food needs delivering a little more quickly. For a little bit of stargazing there are communal outdoor seating areas for social gatherings, some with smart firepits supplied by our friends at FirepitsUK .
Step 5 – Build a Den
Children can seek out the Hearn Hideaway, a secret hideout for little ones to plot wild plans. Or there are den building materials for those who want to construct their own and create something unique.
Step 6 – Sleep under the stars
Sleep off all that wildness in one of our eight spacious Persian ‘Alachigh’ tents, totally off grid, with high domes and skylights for stargazing and all tucked away in a peaceful and private coppiced woodland. There’s enough room for two adults and up to four children with a double, two truckle beds and a sofa bed available in each tent. There are private ensuite flushing loos and three of the tents have ensuite showers, while the remaining tents each having a dedicated shower in our glorious showerblock . There’s even a Victorian style roll top bath!
A wonderfully wild walkabout awaits at Penhein. Switch off, tune out and reconnect to nature in our ancient woodlands and wide open spaces. Come and join us, we can’t wait to re-wild you
