Penhein's Green Guardians

Penhein’s Green Guardians

PENHEIN’S GREEN GUARDIANS

‘Penhein Glamping’s commitment to sustainability cannot be questioned and they are a business that will continue to go from strength to strength as they progress along their green journey.’

Green Tourism GOLD Award

We are the current guardians of Penhein’s farmland. As such, we believe strongly that it is our responsibility to minimise – as much as possible and for as long as possible – our ecological footprint.

On a practical note, this translates to every action we take in the day-to-day running of the farm and glampsite. We try to ensure that all these actions – down to the very last detail – reflect this overarching vision and are as sustainable as possible, from the tent materials to the firelighters, from the recycling to the office paper.

Buying locally and sustainably are mantras for us, and we are continually working with suppliers, contractors and sub-contractors to find ways of jointly minimising our environmental impact.

Our sustainability beliefs:

The change in climate occurring in the world at the moment – which is creating global warming – is not natural.  The main driver has been human activity; primarily the burning of fossil fuels.  We are now increasingly seeing the adverse effects of this planetary heating on the natural world – such as the loss of sea ice, melting glaciers, a fall in biodiversity and an increase in extreme weather patterns.

Much closer to home, on the farm at Penhein, we are also conscious of small shifts and changes in nature. For example, the annual snowfall of my childhood, resulting in wonderful sledging but also frozen water troughs and being snowed in for days on end, no longer happens.  In recent years, we have little or no snow at all.

The world needs to cut its carbon emissions by 45% by 2030 in order to keep global warming to no more than 1.5% degrees above that of pre-industrial times. This is why we at Penein Glamping are committed to contributing to this goal by keeping our emissions as low as possible and making sure we maintain our strong focus on sustainability.

We believe in conserving resources, looking after the countryside, giving the car a rest, polluting less, avoiding overly packaged goods, using local suppliers, avoiding single-plastic use, making efficient use of our natural resources, finding ways to reduce our energy usage, complying with regulatory requirements, incorporating environmental factors into all our business decisions and promoting responsibility for the environment within the whole team at Penhein.

And we warmly encourage our guests to do likewise!

We have been honoured to receive a Green Tourism Gold Award and the Welsh Green Key Award for sustainability in the hospitality industry.  These awards make us believe that we are on the right track, but we are also very aware that the world and its climate is changing quickly, and that there are always ways in which we can improve.
